The Streets of Montmartre

One of the many delights of Paris is that it is a relatively small city so walking is a pleasure. Within half an hour or so, I have left behind the spices of India in the Gare du Nord area, passed by a wealth of African hair salons and beauty parlors to arrive at the grand Opera house. From here it is a short, window shopping walk to Place Vendome, home of the Ritz hotel and a selection of exclusive jewelers and boutiques but, a hidden treasure is actually underneath this fancy square: the underground car park. Not an obvious attraction but this is a rare opportunity for top-end car enthusiasts to drool.

The white dome of the Basilica of the Sacré Cœur dominates the skyline of Montmartre. 130 meters above the city, the views are tremendous; pick out the equally visible landmark of the Pompidou center with its colourful inside-out architecture.
