As a youngster I loved all things sweet but nowadays I ditch dessert unless either ‘the calories are worth it’ or, the description makes it simply irresistible. Returning to Youpi et Voila for lunch which is situated close by the funky canal St-Martin area in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, myself and a couple of lovely girlfriends were the first to arrive ay the bistro and by far, the last to leave. Late November so we began with a Beaujolais Nouveau apero; the best, if not the only, great marketing exercises launched by The French though our bottle of Brouilly, over lunch, was unsurprisingly superior.

Lunch, as our last visit, was superbly executed with top quality ingredients prepared and cooked to perfection with beautiful presentation but for once, it was dessert that really grabbed attention: Carpaccio of Pineapple with Avocado Cream and Coriander Ice Cream. Saited by previous courses our order was for one pud and 3 dessert spoons which besides being supplied with a smile, was a very interesting flavour combination; the natural sweetness of pineapple that was tempered by creamy avocado then brought zingingly back to by ice cold, aromatically-sweet coriander. Impossible to describe so all I can really do is to suggest that you go along and try it out for yourself…
